Tove Jansson's »Alice« pics: Misremembered Nursery Song (p. 46+47)

046     047

Remark:
In the original Swedish edition this is one drawing running down the length of a page. At this point in the story, the Caterpillar asks Alice to recite the words of a now forgotten English nursery-rhyme, "You are old, Father William". Alice gets the words all messed up. The Swedish translator has her bungling a well-known Swedish nursery song instead, "Herr Kantarell" (Mr Chanterelle), about a family of mushrooms living on the hillside where junipers grow.

I kindly ask you to read everything on the Title Page of this picture collection carefully.
